International Workshop: The Man-Machine Interface
Review ACHEMA 2015
“Man, machine and safety: an unbeatable team!” Safe man-machine interface design, particularly from the viewpoint of ergonomics and demographic change, is the focus of an international workshop organised by the ISSA Chemistry Section together with the ISSA Machine and System Safety Section and Heidelberger Verein zur internationalen Förderung der Prävention in der chemischen Industrie e.V. (Heidelberg association for the international promotion of prevention in the chemical industry) which took place on 17 and 18 June 2015 in the framework of ACHEMA. In cooperation with SUVA (Swiss National Accident Insurance Fund), INRS (French National Institute for Research and Occupational Safety), National Institute for Insurance against Accidents at Work, Italy (INAIL), AUVA (Austrian Workers' Compensation Board) and BG RCI (German Employers’ Liability Insurance Association for the Raw Materials and Chemical Industry) the Workshop has attracted a number of high-profile speakers.
The Workshop comprised three thematic blocks:
- Measures to combat the manipulation of protective devices
- Demographic change and diversity in the workplace and the related challenges for prevention
- Communication and risk assessment
All lectures and discussions were simultaneously translated into German, English and French.

The International Sections for Prevention in the Chemical Industry and for Machine and System Safety are part of the International Social Security Association (ISSA). Since their foundation they have been committed to the prevention of occupational accidents and diseases: Together with Heidelberger Verein zur internationalen Förderung der Prävention in der chemischen Industrie e.V. (Heidelberg Society for the International Promotion of Prevention in the Chemical Industry) they regularly address the latest health protection and safety issues.
In conjunction with the Workshop:
“Man, machine and safety: an unbeatable team!” is the theme of the exhibition stand.
Most of the exhibits on the stand were interactive, providing visitors with an informative, hands-on experience of machine safety systems. The exhibits were complemented by an attractive programme, including
- Experimental shows covering all aspects of noise
- Stage shows on and around the exhibits
- Daily competition with prizes
