Practical knowledge about high performance compact and not-so-compact heat exchangers, and their advantages and limitations Understanding key modeling aspects of complex high performance heat exchangers Use of heat transfer enhancement technology to improve performance of conventional heat exchangers Industrial application case studies including heat recovery applications Introduction and Course Description The course begins with classifi cation of exchangers based on the degree of compactness. It then covers basic concepts of heat exchanger effectiveness and the impact of fl ow confi guration on heat exchanger performance. Compact heat exchangers such as plate and plate-fi n heat exchangers are discussed in detail along with their design and modelling aspects. Besides the use of compact heat exchangers, high performance heat exchange can also be achieved by employing heat transfer enhancement technology within conventional exchangers. The course focuses on some illustrative practical examples of benefi ts of enhanced heat transfer. Course: High performance energy effi cient heat exchangers and their industrial applications Guest lecturers will highlight specifi c aspects of heat exchanger technology used within industrial context. They will share their experience and knowledge from mainly three different heat exchanger technology sectors. These sectors include heat exchanger fabricators, operating process companies, as heat exchanger users, and fi nally E&C companies. Guest lecturers will also illustrate specifi c process benefi ts, in terms of energy and operating cost savings, obtained by using better heat exchanger technology for industrial applications including heat recovery. Who Should Attend? Practicing process industry professionals, who are either new to the subject area or want to expand their heat transfer knowledge. Please contact the course leader if you need further information. Course Leader Dr. Vishwas Wadekar is Technology Director, Process Heat Transfer at PS2E Institute in France. He has been working with industrial heat transfer for nearly 30 years, specializing in compact exchangers, enhanced heat transfer and heat recovery systems.
